Next Wednesday, January 25, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary hosts her annual Vocation Night, welcoming men, college age and older to join the community for Mass, Dinner and a short presentation on the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The evening runs from 5:15 and should conclude by 8:00. In order to seek the clarity of a possibly vocation, it is a vital experience to visit the seminary, meet the men who are already there, and experience the life of prayer that forms the core of the priesthood and which seminary life is built around. If … Continue reading
Today’s Vocation Story comes from Nathan Baldwin, a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in his second year of college seminary. Nathan is a son of St. Peter in Huber Heights, OH. I first felt the call to the priesthood in 5th or 6th grade when my dad was in diaconate formation. I used to come down with him to visit Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary on weekends and getting to know the seminarians and the priests there really helped to plant the seed of my vocation. As I prepared to enter high school it was … Continue reading
Today’s Vocation Story comes from Joe Gehret, a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati who is currently in his second year of college and is studying at Bishop Simon Brute Seminary on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis. Joe is a son of St. Denis parish in Versailles. I was born and raised a cradle Catholic in Versailles, OH, a small village in the northern part of the Archdiocese, about 2 hours north of Cincinnati. I was baptized at St. Denis parish shortly after I was born, and grew up receiving all the Sacraments … Continue reading
Today’s Vocation Story comest from Fr. Patrick Fairbanks, S.J., Provincial Assistant for Vocations for the Chicago-Detroit Province of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Fr. Fairbanks is a son of St. Peter in Chains parish in Hamilton, OH. A religious vocation sometimes comes to a person after a period of searching, wandering, or just being plain lost. Or maybe that’s when a person most humbly acknowledges that need for Christ as a light. Either way, my call to religious life found clear light in 1984 when I had just turned thirty. I felt ready to make … Continue reading
Today’s Vocation Story comes from Jim Romanello, seminarian for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati in his 4th year of Theology (6th year as a seminarian). Jim is a son of Holy Trinity parish in Norwood, OH. The discernment of my vocation to the priesthood has been, and continues to be a very humbling experience. Many times when I was a child I felt that I wanted to be a priest, even though I really knew nothing about who a priest is and what they really do other than celebrate Mass. As I grew up, like most … Continue reading
Today’s Vocation Story comes from Fr. David Endres, ordained in 2009, son of Sacred Heart Parish in Fairfield, OH. Fr. Endres is currently the co-director of field education and assistant professor at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West in Cincinnati. Growing up in Fairfield, Ohio, near Cincinnati, my experience was of the typical “suburban Catholic” variety. We were part of a large parish of over 2,000 families, Sacred Heart Church. It was there that I was baptized, made my first communion, first confession, and was confirmed. My sister and I attended the parish grade … Continue reading
Today’s Vocation Story comes from Mr. Andrew Cordonnier, a son of St. Remy parish in Russia, OH, third year seminarian for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and currently on his internship year, serving at St. Antoninus Parish in Cincinnati, OH. When I was a sophomore in high school, we were given an assignment to investigate various careers that appealed to us. As I already thought that I wanted to follow in the footsteps of one of my brothers who is a mechanical engineer, I chose to investigate engineering. The problem was that there were three lines … Continue reading
