Clergy Communications – Vocation Office – January 2012
January 9th, 2012 by Father Schnippel

To say we have a lot going on right now might be an understatement!

Vocation Night at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary

Mount St. Mary’s Seminary opens her doors to men, college age and older, who are interested in pursuing the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.  The annual Vocation Night is being held Wednesday, January 25, 2012, beginning with Mass at 5:15 and includes dinner with the seminary community and a presentation on life in the seminary.  It is an excellent opportunity for priests to invite men whom they see as having the potential of a priestly vocation to consider the call.  For more information, call the Vocation Office: 513.421.3131, x2890 or send an email to vocations@catholiccincinnati.org with your interest in attending.

Vocation Awareness Week

This year, National Vocation Awareness Week runs from January 9-15, 2011.  Please use this time to highlight all vocations in the church, but especially priestly and religious vocations.  Instead of a complete package as we have offered over the last few years, we will be highlighting on our website stories of those who have already responded to a vocation to the priesthood and/or religious life.  Please visit www.cincinnativocations.org for more information.

Cast Your Nets – Cincinnati

The Vocation Office continues our collaboration with the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to produce Cast Your Nets, returning to Good Shepherd Parish, Montgomery, on Sunday, January 29, 2012.  Featuring a blend of praise and worship music, a talk by Fr. Ezra Sullivan, OP, of St. Gertrude, and Mass with Fr. Kyle Schnippel; the evening promises to help enliven the faith of our young people, challenging them to bring their energy and enthusiasm back into the life of their home parish.  The evening runs from 5:00 to 9:00 pm.  There is a $5.00 entrance fee to help cover costs incurred.  Priests are encouraged to attend and help is requested with the Sacrament of Confession during the evening.  For more information, contact Wayne Topp in the Vocation Office: 513-421-3131, x2891.

Andrew Dinners

With the continued success of the Andrew Dinners throughout the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, which have now seen over 200 young men join Archbishop Schnurr to hear a presentation on seminary life, three dinners have been scheduled for Fall 2010:

  • March 28: St. Patrick’s, Bellefountaine
  • April 12: St. Thomas More, Withamsville
  • May 1: St. Benedict the Moor, Dayton

The continued success of these dinners relies on priests making the invitations for young men to join them.  As has been consistently reported, the invitation of a priest for a young man to consider the priesthood remains the greatest contributing factor to the discernment of a vocation.

The schedule for the dinners remains the same:

  •             5:30 Doors open
  •             6:00 Dinner
  •             6:45 Program
  •             7:30 Evening Prayer and Closing

Visits to College Seminaries

Visits to the two college seminary programs sponsored by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati (Bishop Simon Bruté in Indianapolis and the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus) are available on an individual basis.  If there is a high school man who is interested in visiting these programs, please contact the Vocation Office for arrangements: 513.421.3131, x2890.

Run for the Call

We are currently recruiting runners to join our Run for the Call team in the Flying Pig Marathon events May 5-6. The purpose of Run for the Call is to raise money for seminarian education. This money will be used strictly as scholarship funds for seminarians who find themselves unable to cover the costs of a seminary education. Please visit http://runforthecall.wordpress.com for more details and direct any interested runners to consider joining the team.
