When did you enter the seminary? 2011
What is your expected ordination year? 2019
Where are you currently studying? Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West, Cincinnati, OH
Who/what influenced your decision to enter the seminary? I’m a huge history nerd. I took a Roman History class in college which influenced me to start studying the history of Catholicism. The more I read, the more I was drawn to the Church. It got to the point where I couldn’t shake the thought that I was meant to discern my life’s vocations in seminary. With much prayer and discussions with my family and priests, I finally entered!
What particular devotion(s) do you find helpful in your discernment? For almost a year, I prayed a Rosary every night in order to commit my discernment to the prayers of Our Lady. My Patron Saint, Saint Bartholomew, is also a huge inspiration to me as he spread the Gospel to the far ends of the East—even suffering martyrdom for the Kingdom.
What do you do for fun? Piano and keyboards are my passion. I’ve played for over eight years now and usually play down in the college-pub every night. I also enjoy boxing and playing football when I can.
What is the hardest part of being in the seminary? Waking up at 6:45 every morning was difficult to get used to, but it gets much easier over time.
What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the priesthood? Be open to God’s calling in your life. No matter what your vocation is, let God be your guide. Also, stay close and discuss your thoughts with your parish pastor and with your family. Keep them involved as they will be your biggest supporters!
