What are your favorite things to do? Most of my favorite things to do involve being outside. Whether that means playing sports like football and soccer, hiking, running, or hunting. I also enjoy to simply be able to hang out with family, old friends, and especially seminary friends. Leisure reading detached from assigned class reading is always a plus as well. One of favorite things to do is to simply sit with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament in a chapel. This is not meant to be over pius. I consider it to be like sitting in the presence of good friend; I simply enjoy the opportunity to either speak with Jesus or just sit with him.
Do you struggle in your prayer life? If so, how do you respond to that struggle? Yes, I struggle. St. John Paul II’s advice to simply persevere and keep trying to pray, I have found to be helpful in my life of prayer. I had a spiritual director this past summer who also helped me in my struggles to focus and reap tangible spiritual fruits in prayer. He told me that if I am distracted in prayer or prayer feels particularly dry to simply tell Jesus that I am setting aside this time for Him. Because time given to the Lord is not time wasted.
Why did you enter seminary? I entered seminary because while I had never really considered seminary in grade school and high school. After high school I had a progressive conversion that culminated in a powerful encounter with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist in which I felt a strong call to become a priest. This led me to enter the seminary a few months later. Beginning a journey that has brought me ever closer and closer in my friendship with Jesus.
