When did you enter the seminary? 2011
What is your expected ordination year? 2019
Where are you currently studying? Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West, Cincinnati, OH
Who/what influenced your decision to enter the seminary? I’m a huge history nerd. I took a Roman History class in college which influenced me to start studying the history of Catholicism. The more I read, the more I was drawn to the Church. It got to the point where I couldn’t shake the thought that I was meant to discern my life’s vocations in seminary. With much prayer and discussions with my family and priests, I finally entered!
What particular devotion(s) do you find helpful in your discernment?Marian devotion, especially the Rosary, is a huge part of my spiritual life. The Blessed Mother wants good and holy priests for the Church, and she’s there to help each of us in our discernment and growth in holiness.
What do you do for fun? I play piano, read novels, work out, and play disc golf.
What is the hardest part of being in the seminary? The Horarium (daily schedule) is difficult to get used to, but it serves to anchor the day around prayer and becomes easier as time goes by.
What advice would you give to a young man thinking about the priesthood?Be open to God’s calling in your life, whatever that might be. Entering seminary does not guarantee ordination; it’s a discernment process to help you discover if God is calling you to the priesthood or to another state in life. Stay close to priests who inspire and challenge you to grow in the spiritual life, and get to know your potential seminary-brothers by coming for a visit. We’d love to have you!
